Jozy Altidore apologizes to USMNT fans for letting them down: 'Thank you all so much'

Jozy Altidore apologized and thanked the U.S. men's national soccer team's fans the day after the team embarrassingly failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986 with a loss to Trinidad and Tobago.

Fans are angry and sad, and Altidore knows that. He shared this message on Twitter.

Altidore first says sorry to all the fans for letting them down, but then says that he believes they'll be able to "come back better and more determined than ever."

Additionally, the 27-year-old Toronto FC forward asks fans to support the U.S. men's soccer team in this "incredibly difficult period."

"We need you now more than ever to help continue to grow the game at the grassroots level across the country," Altidore writes. "Please keep supporting and playing the beautiful game. The best days for soccer in this country are still to come. We have to keep working hard, believing in ourselves and never give up."

It should be noted that while the men's team has never won the World Cup, the U.S. women's national soccer team has won three times, most recently in 2015. The next Women's World Cup will be in the summer of 2019 in France.
